Director of Finance and Operations
Billy Chen is a public accountant who joined NCLR in 2013 after working as an auditor for nonprofit organizations at Crosby & Kaneda, CPAs. He has done both program and administrative work with youth, social justice, domestic violence, LGBT, Asian and Pacific Islander, anti-violence, environmental, and arts organizations. An immigrant from Taiwan, he lived in the American South, Los Angeles, and Orange County before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, he majored in molecular biology, but cut class for activism and queer theory. He feels himself continually being ethically transformed by an attentiveness to queer of color, transnational feminist, queer, and transgender politics.
Billy is on the Leadership Team of TGI Justice Project (Transgender Gender-Variant Intersex Justice Project), an organization centering the leadership of transwomen of color both inside and outside of prison, creating and sustaining a primary kinship network across, within, and despite gender and state violence; and is a board member of the San Francisco LGBT Center.
