Billy Chen

Director of Finance and Operations

Billy Chen is a public accountant who joined NCLR in 2013 after working as an auditor for nonprofit organizations at Crosby & Kaneda, CPAs. They have done both program and administrative work with youth, social justice, domestic violence, LGBT, Asian and Pacific Islander, anti-violence, environmental, and arts organizations. An immigrant from Taiwan, they lived in the American South, Los Angeles, and Orange County before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, they majored in molecular biology, but cut class for activism and queer theory. They feel continually ethically transformed by an attentiveness to queer of color, transnational feminist, queer, and transgender politics.

Billy is on the Leadership Team of TGI Justice Project (Transgender Gender-Variant Intersex Justice Project), an organization centering the leadership of Black transwomen of color both inside and outside of prison, in the longer fight to dismantle and abolish the Prison Industrial Complex and work toward liberation and transformative justice.
