Zambino 1_lowSonni has a long history of LGBT activism which began in 1972, where she was instrumental in starting a faction of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) on her college campus.

Sonni moved to the Bay Area in 1976 and was a founding member of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Day Marching Band and the founding conductor of the San Francisco Lesbian Chorus which kept her busy until the early 1980s. Sonni was also chosen to conduct a mass choir of west coast LGBT choruses at the closing of Gay Games I at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

From 1982 to 1984 Sonni focused her computing knowledge on the AIDS crisis as a volunteer and consultant to the AIDS Behavioral Research Project (McKusick), which was the first longitudinal behavioral AIDS study in the United States. From 1986 to 1988 she was a board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF).

Since attending her first NCLR Gala in 1998, Sonni has been an engaged advocate of NCLR’s mission and has been co-chair of NCLR’s major gifts campaign three times. She also sits on the board of Openhouse, a San Francisco based organization building community, services, and housing for LGBT seniors.

Sonni lives in Mountain View, CA and is the Chief Information Officer of Dentistat, Inc. and, Inc. in Campbell, CA.
