Achieving LGBTQ Equality Through Litigation, Legislation, Policy, and Public Education

Case Summary & History

Advocacy: Ann Fanning and Lyndy Roxby

STATUS: Victory, Florida

Ann Fanning and Lyndy Roxby had been together for nearly thirteen years when Ann suffered a debilitating stroke. Lyndy began caring for her immediately. About ten years later, Ann entered hospice care while Lyndy continued to care for her. During this time, Ann signed several legal documents, designating Lyndy as the person responsible to make medical decisions for her. Despite these documents, Adult Protective Services permanently removed Ann from her shared home with Lyndy. A court subsequently determined that Lyndy was not capable of caring for Ann and that Ann was incapable of consenting to services regarding her care. Lyndy subsequently lost the home she shared with Ann, too. NCLR worked with Lyndy and Ann regarding their contested guardianship case and in their foreclosure matter.
