Despite major gains in the movement for LGBT equality, it is legal in more than half of the country to fire someone based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
Through NCLR’s case work, public advocacy, and public education, we are committed to ending discrimination in employment for all LGBT individuals.
Across the country, NCLR is working with municipal and state lawmakers, as well as private corporations to advance non-discrimination policies—creating workplaces that embrace diversity.
On the national level, NCLR has advocated for the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Since 1994, ENDA has come before the U.S. Congress multiple times, and one day it will finally be passed into federal law.
Until then, NCLR will continue to advocate across the country and through the courts to create equality in the workplace.
