Help End Florida's Ban on Gay Adoption

Dear Friend of NCLR,

In two weeks, our colleagues at the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Family Equality Council, and SAVE Dade are hosting a free training event at the second annual Miami-Dade GLBT Business Expo to provide you with the basic skills and training to help end Florida's ban on gay adoption by changing the hearts and minds of your friends, neighbors, and communities.

When NCLR was founded over 30 years ago, nearly all the cases on our docket were about ensuring LGBT parents custody of their children after they came out. Our three decades of legal victories have changed the legal landscape for all LGBT parents and families. But we know there is still so much more to be done.In Florida we have been working tirelessly to overturn a discriminatory adoption ban which prevents lesbian and gay people from adopting or becoming foster parents.

We need your help to make this goal a reality.

Register today as space is limited.

WHAT:

Campaign Kick-Off and Training

WHEN:

Saturday, October 3rd from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

WHERE:

Miami Beach Convention Center
1901 Convention Center Drive
Miami Beach, FL 33139

Training participants will learn how to prepare and deliver short talks on gay adoption to local groups they are members of (PTA, etc.), have one-on-one conversations with non-LGBT people, conduct media interviews, and utilize other skills to educate the public and change people's hearts and minds on this critical issue. There will be separate, age appropriate trainings for adults (ages 18 and up) and teens/tweens (ages 9 to 17).

Family Equality Council will also provide programming designed for children 2 to 8, which will be offered during the adult and teen/tween trainings. The children's programming focuses on celebrating LGBT and all loving families through arts & crafts, games, stories, and more! Registration is required, so be sure to register your children when you complete your registration form. Space is limited! Please note, children will not be allowed in the adult or teen/tween trainings.

For additional information on this event or the ACLU of Florida LGBT Advocacy Project, please contact Shelbi Day at SDay@aclufl.org or (813) 254-3361.

It is going to take a herculean effort to undo this lifetime of discrimination. And NCLR is proud to stand with our partners at the ACLU-FL, GLAAD, Family Equality Council, SAVE Dade, COLAGE, Equality Florida, South Florida Family Pride, Securing Our Children's Rights (SOCR), PFLAG - Miami Chapter, Organizations United Together, and Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in this campaign.

It will take all of us to bring an end to this ban and bring hope and forever families to children in Florida’s foster care system. Please register to help end Florida’s discriminatory adoption ban today.

Together we win,
