Kelly McCown, Esq. | board member

Kelly McCown is proud to have joined the National Center for Lesbian Rights Board of Directors in 2009, after many years as a volunteer attorney for NCLR's monthly legal clinic for LGBT immigrants.

She is a partner and co-founder of McCown & Evans LLP, an immigration law firm in San Francisco that focuses on employment-based visas, labor certification, employment-based permanent residence applications, naturalization, and family immigration, with a special focus on counseling bi-national couples. She is one of fewer than 200 attorneys certified as a specialist in immigration and nationality law by the State Bar of California. In 2008, Kelly was honored by Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (the San Francisco-based LGBT bar association) with its Minority Bar Coalition Unity Award.

She has a strong commitment to community service. In addition to serving on NCLR's Board of Directors, she serves on the Bank of San Francisco's Board of Directors and served for six years on the American Immigration Council's Board of Trustees. She also is a volunteer attorney with the AIDS Legal Referral Panel and a mentor attorney with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Asylum Program. Kelly graduated from Stanford University and Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in Oakland with her wife Barbara.
