Laura Nixon | law students for reproductive justice fellow

As a Law Students for Reproductive Justice Fellow, Laura Nixon helps advance NCLR’s federal and state policy and legislative priorities with an emphasis on reproductive justice the right to have children, to not have children, and to parent the children we have.

Prior to joining NCLR, Laura was a Fellow in the Office of the General Counsel at the City University of New York and a (temporary) Legislative Fellow at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Laura has clerked for National Advocates for Pregnant Women, where she provided support in advancing the rights and well-being of pregnant women facing criminal charges based on allegations of substance abuse, and at the Brooklyn Family Defense Project, where she assisted in defending young parents charged with child abuse or neglect. Laura also volunteered with the Brooklyn Young Mothers’ Collective to jumpstart their Legal Advocacy Project.

Laura is a graduate of Kalamazoo College and the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the CUNY Law Review. Prior to law school, Laura led case management on the National Abortion Federation Hotline, served on the steering committee of the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force, and was one of several activists who led the revival of the D.C. Abortion Fund from dormancy.
