Gay Rights Pioneer Barbara Gittings' Short Video Tribute Available to Public at gogaydvd.com

"I was in a room with twelve other lesbians and, oh, what a thrill that was!"
B. Gittings, Before Stonewall, 1983

(San Francisco, CA, March 23, 2007) — Dear news editor, internet reporter or organizational newsletter editor:

The newly formed GLBT Filmmakers' Consortium has produced a short video tribute to Gay Rights Pioneer Barbara Gittings (1932-2007) who recently passed away. In our newly posted video stream we use footage out takes from the Stonewall Archives of various interviews of Gittings mixed with old film of Liza Ben, former secretary and early gay activist, singing and playing her guitar at the Los Angeles Garden Party that was organized for the documentary Before Stonewall in 1983.

Much of this old footage was cut up into pieces and has sat in boxes in the attic for years until it was recently recovered with the support from the H. van Ameringen Foundation, Andrew Tobias, Charles Nolan, Alvin Baum Jr. and others.

The public can stream this tribute from their computer at no cost by going to the newly constructed LGBT and Independent Filmmakers Consortium site at http://www.gogaydvd.com/.

Please feel free to notify your viewers and readers about this video tribute to one of the most important pioneers of the early gay movement, Barbara Gittings (1932-2007).

The National Center for Lesbian Rights is a national legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education.
