Finance and Operations Coordinator
Raini C. Vargas joined the National Center for Lesbian Rights in 2019. At NCLR, Raini assists in the day-to-day and long-term operations of the office, bookkeeping, human resources support, external relations with IT and administration-related vendors, Board of Directors, and monitors the needs of the organization to ensure staff and NCLR are able to operate smoothly.
Raini graduated from San Francisco State University in May 2019, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a minor in LGBTQIA+ Studies. For their undergraduate research, Raini looked at the ‘contact effect’ on lesbian, gay, and transgender policy – the extent to which the public is inclusive of gay and lesbian policy but hesitant towards transgender policy, and the role that contact plays in this study. They were awarded the 2019 Gene Geisler Endowed Scholarship, as well as the SSRIC’s Best Undergraduate Paper.
In addition to their role at NCLR, Raini is heavily involved in San Francisco politics – including voter registration and assisting in local elections.
Raini is passionately dedicated to uplifting the voices of LGBTQIA+ people and the issues surrounding homo-antagonism and trans* rights.
