Key Responsibilities

Financial Management (60%):

  • Work collaboratively with the President and Board of Directors on organizational fiscal strategy and execution.
  • Serve on the Senior Management Team to establish organizational priorities and workflow.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in Advancement, Legal, and Programs to ensure financial responsibility, internal controls, and risk management through the organization.
  • Oversee accounting functions and related financial activities and supervise the accounting staff and contractors. Establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard assets.
  • Co-direct the Department of Business Administration and lead the areas of finance, accounting, information technology, risk management, investments, cash and banking and organizational policy and administration
  • Oversee treasury management and maintain appropriate cash levels for liquidity and short-term investments.
  • Establish and maintain accounting control over donor-restricted, board-designated, and investment funds.
  • Direct the preparation, review, and analysis of timely financial reports, including financial statements and cash flow projections.
  • Provide and present financial reports to staff, committees and the board of directors.
  • Direct the preparation, review, maintenance, and analysis of annual operating budgets and long-range financial projections.
  • Monitor the organization’s investment portfolio, implement policies as approved by the Investment Committee, and in collaboration with investment advisors.
  • Oversee the annual audit under the direction of the Audit Committee and manage the issuance of annual financial statements.
  • Manage the preparation of tax returns, information returns, and related reports to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Serve as an executive reviewer for all NCLR contracts and agreements.
  • Act as signatory on all NCLR banking accounts.
  • Direct, negotiate, and manage insurance policies and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Serve as committee staff lead for the Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Audit Committee.
  • Manage the financial component of employee benefits and 401K programs and ensure compliance with financial procedures and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of People, Culture and Equity to prepare and monitor salary and benefit schedules.
  • Lead effective contract management processes, including review and negotiation; timely and accurate reporting; proper financial controls; budget management and performance tracking.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures, identifying and addressing financial issues as related to contracting, compliance and risk mitigation.

General Business Administration and Risk Management (25%):

  • Co-direct the Department of Business Administration (BusAdmin) and co-supervise the BusAdmin staff with the VP of People, Culture and Equity (VPPCE).
  • Foster a positive organizational culture that embodies and puts into action the organization’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Antiracism.
  • Provide proactive, accurate and expeditious business advice that facilitates the achievement of non-profit business objectives and continuously supports, educates and advises leadership and staff on initiatives that meet the standards of the law, and ensure low risk, high-efficiency organizational management.
  • Supervise staff and third parties to ensure smooth day-to-day administration of the contract and risk management functions of the organization, including:
  • Oversee State Registration reporting.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws and regulations affecting the nonprofit sector.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Oversee facility operations and office administration as it relates to a remote working environment.

Information Technology and Security (15%)

  • Proactively ensure that employees and programs leverage technology to optimize communications, operations and security throughout the organization.
  • Supervise and partner with the external technology services contractor to ensure smooth day-to-day technology operations of the organization and ability of staff to be productive and efficient, leveraging appropriate tools and technology, including:
  • Plan for and implement continuous improvement of IT infrastructure in order to ensure a consistent and secure environment.
  • Ensure institutional records are maintained in an accessible yet secure manner and oversee records retention policies and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies and strategies; provide regular training to mitigate risk while avoiding service interruption.

Requirements

  • Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field or equivalent experience; master’s degree, MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit or mission-driven finance leadership.
  • Experience managing finance teams and building inclusive, accountable team culture.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit financial regulations, grants management, and
  • compliance.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent judgment, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success advising senior leadership and boards on complex financial
  • matters.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time salaried position with a salary range of: $164,690-$172,690.
