(San Francisco, CA, December 22, 2014)—On Saturday, December 20, two New York Police Department officers were shot while on duty in Brooklyn and later died from their injuries.

Statement by NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell, Esq.:

“The ambush killing of two New York police officers is horrifying. While we are in the midst of a national conversation on police conduct we are mindful that every day cops all over the nation put themselves in harm’s way for our protection and the vast majority act with deep integrity and honor. We agree with New York Times columnist Charles Blow that it is simple humanity that calls us to both decry these officers’ killings and also to insist on reforms to better protect the most vulnerable citizens.”
