Servicemembers asked the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to once again halt the ban as the legal case goes forward. Their court filing cites that the Administration has conceded in court that the ban is not based on data or evidence and that the servicemembers challenging it are “honorable, truthful, and disciplined,” physically and mentally fit to serve, and have “made America safer.”

The U.S. Air Force announced it was revoking the commitment it had made to allow transgender service members with between 15-18 years of service eligibility for early retirement, and would instead separate them from the military without access to the retirement benefits they earned and their families were counting on.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth instructed transgender servicemembers to self-identify for separation by this date or face “involuntary separation.” With this deadline, servicemembers faced an impossible choice that is anything but voluntary – forgo careers they have dedicated their lives to or face the unknown consequences of “involuntary” separation.
