Your gift today supports our fight to ban conversion therapy nationwide and protect all LGBTQ youth from this harmful and discredited practice.
Since 2014, NCLR has been fighting conversion practices state-by-state, ban-by-ban through our Born Perfect program. From California to New Jersey, NCLR has helped secure legislation protecting youth from this dangerous, uncredited practice that attempts to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
Now, we’re taking this fight to the highest court in the land, as the U.S. Supreme Court hears Chiles v. Salazar, a challenge attempting to overturn Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors. The case was brought by a counselor who claims that this ban infringes her right to free speech. But conversion therapy is not speech – it is a false promise linked to increased rates of suicide attempts, anxiety, and depression.
Chiles v. Salazar is being argued at the Supreme Court on October 7, and we anticipate a decision in June of 2026. Along with our partners at PFLAG, One Colorado, and others, NCLR filed an amicus brief supporting Colorado’s law and will watch the proceedings closely. The outcome will have a tremendous impact on the future of conversion therapy laws around the country, and we need your support to continue our work protecting young people from this dangerous practice.
